Commission Information

Commission members (five members) are made by Mayoral Appointment/Council Approved, with five year terms. One member must be a tenant of public/subsidized housing. Terms expire on the third Monday in April.

Pine River Place Apartments

The Charlevoix Housing Commission operates Pine River Place Apartments in beautiful Charlevoix, Michigan. We offer affordable housing for qualified applicants. We are a mixed population, low income housing complex. 

We show a preference to the elderly (age 62 and older) and disabled persons. Pine River Place is a three story brick building with an elevator. We are an independent living community and do not offer assisted living services. We have an emergency call-to-aid system that is monitored 24-hours by a professional monitoring company.

Information for Residents

Included in the monthly rent payment are: 

  • Heat (hot water baseboard)
  • Sewer
  • Trash collection 
  • Water

The resident pays for their telephone and electric bill and receives a deduction in rent towards the electric bill. We offer an option of Expanded Basic cable television. There is a laundry facility with washers and dryers available for residents to use that are available at a low cost and open 24-hours a day. Rent is based on a calculation of actual income and asset income with deductions for out-of-pocket medical expenses. It is roughly 30% of a person's income.
