Assistant Emergency Medical Services Director

The City of Charlevoix is seeking a full-time Assistant Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director who will support the EMS Director in all aspects of the director’s responsibilities. This includes planning, organizing and administering the emergency medical training program and entering and maintaining Quality Assurance on all medical documentation of runs performed by the personnel of the Charlevoix City EMS Department while maintaining records as required by the State of Michigan Medical Services. In the absence of the EMS Director, this position will supervise EMS personnel and will report directly to the EMS Director.

The Assistant EMS Director will also perform EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic duties, depending on their current certification, and respond to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured. They will conduct patient assessments as applicable under their scope of practice; provide patient care while on scene of call and during transport; is responsible for conducting all invasive procedures; apply extrication skills as required; prepare patients under varying environments to be safely moved to the vehicle for transport, responsible for cooperating with partners to provide for the safe and smooth transport of everyone on-board vehicle; unload patients from the vehicle, and transfer patient care to the receiving facility; complete required documentation; and prepare vehicle and equipment for the next assignment.

The selected candidate will be required to reside within twenty (20) miles of the nearest boundary of the City of Charlevoix within 90 days of their date of employment. The City Manager may allow an additional 90 days for a new employee to comply with residency requirements. If the employee’s spouse is employed by a public employer and a conflicting/competing residency requirement results, this section shall not apply to the City of Charlevoix employee (prohibited by MCL 15.602).

Candidates must possess and maintain a current, unrestricted, non-probationary State of Michigan EMT, AEMT or Paramedic License. Pay Range is from $11.20 to $17.50 per hour depending on certification and experience. This position includes an excellent benefit package.

The City of Charlevoix is seeking paid-on-call Paramedics for the City of Charlevoix Emergency Medical Services program. Paramedic primary pay is $150 per 12/hr shift, back-up pay is $75 per 12/hr shift, and run pay is $35/hr per run. We also have special pay for holidays and special events.
