Energy Efficiency Rebate
There are special publications available that contain a lot of information on energy efficiency in the home. They are available for the Kitchen (PDF) and HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) (PDF).
CFL / CFL Recycling
As part of the effort to reduce customer electric usage, the City of Charlevoix Electric Department periodically gives away free CFL and LED Bulbs on a first come, first served basis. Keep an eye out for advertisements or notes on your utility bills as to when the next give-away will be.
The City is also accepting burned out CFL Bulbs for recycling. Bring in your burned out CFL Bulbs to City Hall and hand them to the clerk for recycling. Only intact bulbs are accepted, no broken bulbs.
Energy Waste Reduction Program for Residential Customers
As part of the Energy Waste Reduction Plan, the City of Charlevoix Electric Department is now offering various rebates. The City is offering a $50 rebate to recycle older refrigerators or freezers. The unit must be clean, in working condition, and between 10 to 30 cubic feet. This program is limited while funding lasts, so register soon. We are also offering rebates for certain types of Central Air Conditioning, Furnace Upgrades and ENERGY STAR® Qualified Appliances. View details and necessary forms on the Energy Smart Program website.
Energy Waste Reduction Program for Commercial & Industrial Customers
As part of the Energy Waste Reduction Program, the City of Charlevoix is offering incentives for energy savings for interested commercial and industrial customers of the City of Charlevoix Electric System. This means that area businesses can be eligible for various rebates for changes to lighting, HVAC, refrigeration units, and any other projects that increase energy efficiency. These rebates are available only on a first come first served basis as funds are limited each year.
The companies on the attached list (PDF) have partnered with the City and area businesses to work on energy efficiency projects. They will fill out the necessary forms to apply for these rebates.
