About the Airport

The Charlevoix Municipal Airport is located in the northwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan and is owned by the City of Charlevoix. The current airport location (approximately half a mile southwest of beautiful downtown Charlevoix) was established in the early-to-mid 1950s and has had many upgrades and improvements over the years.

The City of Charlevoix assumed direct operation and staffing on April 1, 2011. The Charlevoix Municipal Airport is a dynamic place to visit and work offering both general aviation and commercial services. The airport has a strong component of business and leisure jet traffic as well as two charter services serving Beaver Island. The charter companies log over 15,000 enplanements each year qualifying the airport for up to $1 million in annual FAA grant funding. For the fall of 2018, grant funding has been earmarked for the construction of a South Taxiway. This new taxiway is the needed infrastructure for future corporate hangar development.

General Airport Information

The Airport is located on 205 acres. The terminal has 3300 usable square feet, 53 aircraft ramping positions, 416 public automobile parking spaces and four automobile rental spaces (summer season only). The terminal building is located on the south side of the airport off US 31 and includes: 

  • Administrative offices
  • Free Wi-Fi and internet service
  • Offices for one of the two charter based operators
  • A pilot's lounge
  • Public waiting areas
  • Restrooms
  • Vending services

The terminal also provides free Wi-Fi and Internet service, vending services are offered. The airport also has ample public parking that is plowed, lighted, and maintained by the City. There are two year-round Airport employees with up to four additional employees depending on the season. 

Airport Features

CVX features a paved, 4550 feet by 75 feet grooved runway (RWY 9/27) along with a seasonal turf, 1280 feet by 200 feet runway (RWY 4/22). The paved runway has a Aircraft Classification number of 29.5 and a Pavement Classification of FAXU. The airport has medium intensity runway and taxiway lighting with instrument approaches. The CTAF/Unicom frequency is 122.8 with an Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) frequency of 122.0. This information is also available by calling 231-237-9703. CVX has a primary airport designation and can handle anything from helicopters and single-engine aircraft up to large twin-engine and jet aircraft.

Charlevoix Municipal Airport is an Avfuel branded airport offering 100LL and JetA fuels. Being an Avfuel branded airport, Avpoints are available for  Customers can rest assured that City staff has been completely trained on fuel quality assurance. The Airport also offers Avpoints and contract fuel options for commercial pilots.

Charter Based Operators

We currently have two charter based operators at the airport, Island Airways and Fresh Air Aviation.
